EDGES BEYOND

For me, painting begins with mark-making – an exploration of dualities: rough and smooth, light and dark, large and small. I often scratch back into the surface, allowing each layer to reveal something of what came before, creating a dialogue with time and place. The landscape that surrounds me is a constant source of inspiration – shifting weather systems rolling in from the West, and the rugged mountains of Wales calling from across the estuary, as the last light fades within their edges beyond. A ground of Indian orange introduces a warmth that resurfaces through these incisions, sometimes revealing unexpected textures as it dries. Each painting unfolds as its own quiet narrative of the natural world.
